About Montana INBRE

The MT INBRE is one of 23 states and one territory (Puerto Rico) participating in the Institutional Development Award (IDeA) Program. The MT INBRE is a collaborative network of Ph.D.-granting institutions, baccalaureate schools, and tribal colleges and is regionally linked to other INBRE and COBRE (Centers of Biomedical Research Excellence) programs through the Lariat, which is the first phase of the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) IDeANet Program. (See Organizational Chart.)

MT INBRE GOALS

The overall goal of the MT INBRE Program is to build on the successes of the previous BRIN and INBRE networks to position the state as a national leader in research on the epidemiology and pathogenesis of infectious diseases and environmental health as well as further develop the state's Community-Based Participatory Research and research on health disparities . At the same time, Montana’s workforce is being developed to meet the biomedical research and economic development challenges of the future.

To meet its goals, MT INBRE will:

  • Increase the number of infectious disease and environmental health investigators at universities and four-year colleges to achieve the critical mass necessary to sustain a productive and competitive research network. (See Research Core.)
  • Elevate the research programs of Montana faculty members to cutting-edge science. (See Research Core.)
  • Develop a pipeline to careers in health research and increase the scientific and technological knowledge of the state’s workforce by expanding and enhancing research opportunities for students. (See Student Programs.)
  • Enhance Community-Based Participatory Research and research on health disparities at Montana’s Tribal Colleges. (See CBPR/HD Core.)
